Virtualization of User Data Centrally hosting computing resources using desktop virtualization provides the organization with significant cost savings and ease of IT administration. Users also gain the ability to have their computer follow them rather than be tied to one physical location. However, the challenge has been how to manage the user data so that users have fast and reliable access to their data just as they did on their physical desktops while maintaining data integrity. IT administrators are faced with making choices between fast access to data, flexible access to data, maintaining data integrity, lowering network bandwidth consumption and spending more time maintaining logoff scripts. Administrators have used mandatory, roaming, and hybrid profiles to address some of these issues, but there is always some sort of tradeoff.
New VMware Featured Resource! The VMware View Reference Architecture Kit includes a guide to profile virtualization that discusses the issues of managing user profiles in a desktop virtualization environment. VMware recommends implementing the robust profile management software RTO Virtual Profiles along with VMware View.
Why Virtual Profiles?
With RTO Virtual Profiles IT administrators can:
With Virtual Profiles your user data is virtually everywhere your users are;
