Recently, there's been a flurry of activity at RTO Software since VMware announced that it was acquiring three of RTO's products. Essentially, VMware did not acquire RTO Software. However, VMware did acquire RTO technology-specifically Discover, PinPoint, and Virtual Profiles.
Why RTO's technology?
For the last decade, RTO Software has offered top-notch application management solutions that maximize infrastructure value and deliver a superior user experience for our customers. VMware recognized the importance of including the inventory, monitoring, and acceleration capabilities from our products into their View product line. Thus, they purchased RTO Discover, RTO PinPoint, and RTO Virtual Profiles.
While VMware got a great deal, so did RTO Software. The team at RTO was happy to see all its hard work over the years pay off. Some of the team members, including myself, joined VMware and will continue to work on integrating RTO's technology into VMware View. Our former VP of Sales decided to take a bit of a break. Last I heard, he was sitting on the beach contemplating training for his next triathlon. And quite a few members of our team stayed with RTO Software.
Everyone wants to know if there is a real RTO Software left. Absolutely! VMware did not purchase RTO TScale, RTO's inaugural product. TScale's patented technology optimizes application performance on terminal servers by eliminating virtual memory and CPU resource inefficiencies. TScale was originally developed to optimize applications that don't scale well on terminal servers, and all of the of sales, marketing, and development guys are focused on getting back to RTO's roots and becoming "The TScale Company" again.
So why did the rest of the RTO crew not retire?
We have the right product and the right people. We have something to say. TScale is a valuable asset. Today TScale improves performance, scalability and capacity, providing more value from your terminal server investment. In the near future, TScale will be able to add more value in VDI environments too. Our plans for future releases include new features that will give you better session density. So for both terminal server and virtual desktop environments, TScale will allow you to support more users efficiently and cost-effectively.
While I am still a part of RTO, my role here will be diminishing. Since I really haven't written any new code in years, my transition to VMware will hardly impact the TScale development efforts here at RTO. You can expect to hear more from the team here at RTO in the coming months as we are committed to improving TScale to provide you with even more value than ever before.
